Florida’s Oldest Sanctioned Triathlon

With its beautiful breathtaking venue and under partly cloudy skies, the 37th Annual Pineappleman Triathlon continued its history of producing memorable races on it’s fast flat course along with a water temperature of 82.6 degrees. Athletes from all over Florida and many states enjoyed participating in the Florida’s Oldest Sanctioned Triathlon in Melbourne Beach, FL
Incredible overall wins by Ed Donner from Indian Harbour Beach FL in the men’s group and Mary Swayze from Longmont CO in the women’s group.
Ed Donner won the men’s group by completing the course in 57 mins and 52 seconds (57:52). This is Mr. Donner’s sixth time winning the Pineappleman. 2nd place and 3rd place men’s finishers were Jetson Swayze Longmont CO and Aaron Jenkins of Port Orange FL, with times 1: 00:57 and 1:01:59, respectively. Swayze led the race after the Bike and Swimming portions of the course. Donner overtook Swayze in the final Run portion of the race producing an exciting finish. Both athletes complemented and congratulated each other at the Finish Line.
Mary Swayze from Longmont CO won the women’s group by completing the course in a 1 hour 5 min and 34 seconds. (1:05:34) This is Ms. Swayze first time winning the Pineappleman. 2nd place and 3rd place women’s finishers were Kaileah Blazek of Cocoa FL and Kerry Simmons of Sanford FL, with times 1: 08:51 and 1:09:07, respectively.
“We are blessed to have a wonderful event that appeals to a wide range of athletes” said Joe Watts President of the Melbourne Beach Rotary Club. “The sport continues to grow with over 40 first time triathletes participating in the Pineappleman.” The Melbourne Beach Rotary produces the Pineappleman every year and raises monies for charities in Brevard County and beyond. Men’s winner Ed Donner stated, “This is a great historic race that has a wonderful warm home town feel that also appeals to elite athletes.
Next year’s 38th Annual Pineappleman Triathlon will be held on Sunday June 2, 2024.
